Oxford replaces Cambridge as UK's best university in 2021 Guardian University Guide
09 September 2020
The University of Oxford has knocked the University of Cambridge off the top of the Guardian University Guide following the publication of its 2021 rankings.
It is the first time in 10 years Oxford has been ahead of Oxbridge rival Cambridge, due in large part to more Oxford graduates moving into graduate-level jobs after completing their studies. The University of St Andrews maintained its second position in the table, with Cambridge, the University of Durham and London School of Economics and Political Science - who rose 14 places from 19th to 5th - completing the top five.
Other notable rises in the Guide included the University of Bristol (11th from 23rd), University of Edinburgh (13th from 25th) and University of Strathclyde (15th from 51st). The Guardian league tables focus on the quality of teaching, student satisfaction and employability, issues that are vital to young people choosing where to study.
